Housing Research, Harvard GSD studio work
Aging China
The population and urban infrastructure are rapidly aging in China. Young people increasingly choose not to live with their parents and move to newer apartments. Senior population are left with traditional housing types in the heart of Shanghai. With family structures rapidly changing, what does it mean for senior to age happily in place? What kind of housing structure can better accommodate the new needs yet cultivate a traditional sense of community? This is a group work for 4 months with my partner Clayton Strange, during which we took a deep dive into the housing types and social changes in contemporary Shanghai.
